SmartLipo is part of the newest wave of body contouring procedures that takes advantage of safe, effective laser energy to help permanently melt and remove fat, reduce bruising, and tighten and tone skin and tissues. Often performed under local anesthesia, SmartLipo reduces the amount of downtime associated with liposuction, allowing as little as 2-3 days off from work. Because it is performed while you are awake, it is safer, more cost effective, and can help tighten skin where traditional liposuction cannot.

The process of Smartlipo is similar to that of traditional tumescent liposuction. It is a three part operation, first involving the infiltration of a dilute local anesthetic solution which provides numbing to the area to be worked upon. Second, the laser is used to tighten collagen via thermal induction, melts the fat, and causes tissue coagulation – which can lead to less bruising and swelling. Third, small liposuction cannulas are utilized to help smooth, contour, and shape different areas of the body. The upper limit to removal of fat is five liters per session, to help reduce risks and maximize patient safety.

After the surgery, anticipate being placed in a compression garment for 6 weeks postoperatively. Sutures used to close the incisions will be removed in 1 week. Most patients can return to work within 2-7 days, depending on the level of activity required. You may return to the gym and full activities in 7 days. Approximately 70-80% of the anticipated result will be noticed within the first 3-4 weeks, but the remaining 20-30% of improvement takes up to 6 months to fully realize the ultimate result.
