Botox®

BOTOX® injections are an effective way to eliminate and reduce wrinkles.  The three areas most commonly treated include the horizontal lines of the forehead, the vertical lines between the eyebrows, and the crow’s feet around the outer part of the eyes.  These lines can often inadvertently make you appear older, tired, or angry.  Botox® helps to relax these muscles, smoothing the skin, while making your look more refreshed.  We can also use Botox® in other areas of the face, such as the neck, chin, corners of the mouth, and for lines around the upper lip.  For medical treatments, it is also used for migraines and to treat excessive sweating of the armpits, palms, or scalp.

Botox® is a non-surgical skin care treatment done by our Plastic Surgeons in the office.  It only takes minutes to perform the injection, and results are noted typically within 72 hours.  Botox® works by blocking a muscle receptor from receiving a signal, thereby relaxing the muscle.  As a result of this, the overlying skin is no longer being wrinkled, and subsequently becomes smoother, resulting in a more rested and youthful appearance.  Over time, typically around 3 months, the muscle function is regained and the lines may reappear.  When this happens, a follow-up visit for reinjection will be needed to regain the desired result.

At Hankins & Sohn Plastic Surgery, we are a black diamond user of Botox®, the highest level of distinction available for the volume of Botox® that we inject annually.  At our office, you will only be injected by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, experienced in achieving a natural, smooth result for our patients.  Both Dr. Hankins and Dr. Sohn are on the faculty for Allergan, performing training sessions for other physicians interested in appropriate technique.  In addition, due to the volume of Botox® used at our facility, you can be assured that the Botox® you receive is mixed fresh for greatest effect, and will not be some old inventory that’s been sitting around.

Dysport

Dysport is a competitor to Botox®, recently introduced to the U.S. market, although it has been available in Europe for many years.  The effect of Dysport is similar in duration and efficacy.  Some patients have been trying it, and are satisfied with the results, while others return to the use of Botox®.  It is priced slightly more economically than Botox®.  The choice is yours, and to discuss this further, feel free to schedule your appointment with Dr. Sohn or Dr. Hankins.
