Forehead Lift (Brow, Endobrow)
As we age, gravity affects the eyebrows and they tend to fall. Lines may deepen, or your vision may even become compromised due to a heavy brow. The eyelids change shape as well, and the drop of the eyebrow also causes increased fullness of the upper eyelids. In concert, these changes can lead to a tired, or unhappy appearance Thankfully, we have options to improve the appearance of the brow through a variety of surgical options.
Browlifts are common for both men and women, helping to not only lift the brow, but make the upper eyelid less full in appearance by opening up the distance from the eye to the eyebrow. An endoscopic browlift allows the surgeon to use a small camera and instruments through tiny incisions in the scalp hidden in the hair, to help elevate the eyebrow. It can also help improve wrinkles between the eyebrows, by softening up the muscle between the eyebrows, acting like a permanent “botox” effect. A coronal or hairline browlift involves a larger incision, where skin is actually removed to help lift the brow position. A natural, smoother, more youthful contour and shape to the eyebrows is the desired result, without creating a “surprised” look.
The surgery takes about 1 hour, and is done under a general anesthetic. Recovery takes from between one to two weeks, depending on whether additional cosmetic procedures are performed, and the degree of swelling and bruising present. Additional aesthetic facial surgical procedures done concurrently include eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or facelift surgery. If you have documented severe visual field impairment due to overhanging skin, insurance may help offset the cost of the procedure.
