What Is Fraxel® Laser Treatment?

Both the Fraxel® DUAL® and the Fraxel® re:pair® are fractional lasers that ablate the skin to generate cell turnover for a more youthful-looking appearance. Fraxel® DUAL® uses a combination of two lasers (Erbium and Thulium) to specifically reduce the appearance of unwanted pigmentation, sun damage, and mild to moderate signs of aging. This technique can be used on the face and the body, including the chest where sunspots often develop. Fraxel® re:pair® is a laser that can address more advanced treatment of deep wrinkles, uneven texture, sun damage, and skin inelasticity on the face and neck. Both techniques can stimulate collagen production, and the right approach for you will depend on many factors. Our skilled medical team will determine which method can optimize your results.

Procedure

Fraxel® lasers are designed to target the areas of concern while leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed. This can provide enhanced, precision treatment with the least downtime possible. Microscopic beams penetrate into the epidermis and dermis (top-most and deeper layers of the skin), heating the tissue and encouraging collagen and elastin production. After the procedure, your body’s natural healing processes can create smoother, brighter, more youthful-looking skin in just a few weeks.

Recovery Experience

Treatment time will depend on the size and number of areas you would like addressed; however, many procedures can be completed in about 30 minutes. Fraxel® DUAL® is considered to be a gentler treatment for less advanced signs of aging, facial scars, pigmentation, and blemishes. Some redness and tenderness of the skin is normal, and these effects should subside within a day. Fraxel® re:pair® is designed for deeper wrinkles, the beginning stages of skin laxity, and uneven texture. Redness, tenderness, and mild swelling may continue for a few days, and most patients can return to work and normal activity after about one week. You should begin to see the benefits of Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing in about one-to-two weeks, with continued improvement over the next several months.
