Can Eyelid Surgery Improve My Vision?

While eyesight may naturally weaken with time, there are other concerns that can also lead to vision problems. One common issue is excess skin on the upper eyelids. Board certified plastic surgeon W. Tracy Hankins, MD explains that, in addition to cosmetic enhancement, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can have medical benefits. If you’ve noticed that your eyelids have become heavy and are impeding your field of vision, Dr. Hankins and our skilled medical team may be able to help.

Also known as an eyelid lift, blepharoplasty is a procedure designed to reduce excess skin on the upper or lower eyelids, or both. Eyelid surgery can be a medically indicated operation if droopy eyelid tissue is physically limiting your vision. In this case, your insurance may partially cover the cost of treatment. Additionally, a descending brow may also contribute to heavy eyelids and vision impairment, which can often be addressed with a brow lift. During your initial complimentary consultation, Dr. Hankins will evaluate your anatomic indicators and develop a customized treatment based on your singular needs and goals.
