Facial Rejuvenation: Facelift or Thermage®?

In our last blog post, Dr. W. Tracy Hankins and Dr. Samuel M. Sohn outlined the unique cosmetic advantages Thermage® can provide. In this follow-up post, they will discuss how Thermage® can be combined with other nonsurgical treatments as an effective alternative to surgery.

With the one-on-one education we provide during the consultation process, our facial rejuvenation patients learn the advantages and disadvantages of a surgical facelift versus a non-invasive treatment such as Thermage®. Afterward, they can form realistic expectations for whichever procedure they choose. For any patient who is truly an ideal candidate for a facelift, there is no non-surgical method that can deliver the same caliber results of skin tightening and contour improvement. However, for individuals whose aesthetic concerns do not necessarily require surgery, Thermage® can provide significant improvement without the downtime and discomfort of a surgical operation.

Thermage® is designed to dramatically improve the skin with a single treatment. In rare cases, we may recommend more than one treatment, but the majority of our patients are satisfied with one treatment and enjoy results that can last one to two years. Most patients can also benefit from combination therapies. Many of our patients use Thermage® as a springboard to start the process of facial rejuvenation, and they often return to Hankins & Sohn Plastic Surgery Associates to re-evaluate what else would complement their recently treated area. Thermage® patients frequently elect for BOTOX® injections for the upper third of their face, dermal fillers for volume restoration, and laser treatments to ensure their skin reflects their rejuvenated look achieved with Thermage®.
